My Father's Festival Invitation
My father, Hazarath SMB SULTHAN KABEER SAHIB, Hereditary Trustee of Nagore Dargah Shariff, sends out the Annual Kandoori Festival invitation to many within India and to the rest of the world. Being the 10th direct blood descendant of the ever great and holy Halarath Kuthbul Aktab Farthul Ahbab Syedus Sathath Syedina Syed abdul Kadir Shahul Hameed Kadir Oli Ganjabuksh Bathusha Sahib Andavar Avargal, my father is a meticulous person performing his duties diligently and with precision.
He has to be prudent in every step he takes standing as a pillar to the Nagore Dargah's Management and Administration. Truly, he is the being custodian of the dargah which has been bestowed by Allah (swt) and by the guiding principles of the Board of Nagore Dargah Hereditary Trustee. May Allah (swt) give him the choicest blessings.
The important days of the Grand Kandoori Festival every year Jamathul Akhir 1st to untill 14th of Jamathul Akhir. The mounting of flag, display of fire works, installation of peer, anointment of sandal wood (chandanam), peer proceeding to sea-shore and dsimounting of flag will take place throughout this period.
I will explain briefly the above momentous works in later part of my page.
1st of Jamathul Aagir - Day 01
This is an auspicious and most celebrated day in Nagore. Many people of all faiths congregate along the streets of Nagore to have a glimpse of the flags in procession in adorned chariots carrying to Nagore Dargah. This is the first day of the Kandoori celebration in Nagore. Flag is a sign of identity. It is the symbol of presence. It is signage of existence. In a war a flag is raised as a sign of victory. Similarly, the raising of flags in the five minarets of Nagore Dargah may be cited to the spiritual victory to the Kingdom of Islam through the holy Hazarath Kuthub ul Akthab Syedina Shahul Hameed (RA).
This year the raising of flags to the minarets will take place on the 1st Jamathul Akhir of every year.. You can witness workers taking this job both as a holy privelge and income daringly hoisting the flag using a large pole. The pole is placed perpendicular to the minaret supported by a net like rope as depicted in the picture. Once the pole is set, the workers with the holy name in their hearts climb up using the net rope as pathway towards the pinnacle of the pole. There they raise the flag. If they had a vow they will say Ya Kadir Muradhu Hasil.

8th of Jamathul Aagir - Day 08
The display of fireworks is part of the chain of the Khandoori Festival. This will happen on the 8th of Jamaidhul Akhir. And remember, Jesus, the son of Mary, said: "O Children of Israel! I am the messenger of Allah (sent) to you, confirming the Law (which came) before me, and giving Glad Tidings of a Messenger to come after me, whose name shall be Ahmad." But when he came to them with Clear Signs, they said, "this is evident sorcery!" Who doth greater wrong than one who invents falsehood against Allah, even as he is being invited to Islam? And Allah guides not those who do wrong.
Their intention is to extinguish Allah's Light (by blowing) with their mouths: But Allah will complete (the revelation of) His Light, even though the Unbelievers may detest (it). Readers are advised to read the above verses 61:6 to 61:8 of the holy Quran. Here Allah swt says that He is Light and He will complete His Light. These verses brings me back display of fireworks in Nagore. Tens of thousands of devotees from many parts of the world will gather to witness this momentous celebration. Moreover, the building of Nagore is also decorated with lights. At night the profile of the premises is outstanding. The fireworks has dual purpose. One to uplift the mood of celebration. The other is to symbolise that truth dissipates falsehood.
9th of Jamathul Aagir - Day 09
Taking of Holy Fast by Followers
Halarath Kuthbul Aktab Farthul Ahbab Syedus Sathath Syedina Syed abdul Kadir Shahul Hameed Kadir Oli Ganjabuksh Bathusha Sahib Andavar Avargal had 404 followers. One of the followers was not present with the Great Qutub when he faded from this physical world. Upon enquiry that the Great Soul was put to rest a follower by the name of Hazarath Mohsin with tearful eyes revealed his love that he greatly missed The Great Master to The Master's son Hazarath Yuousif Sahib (RA) hoping a miracle could happen.
In one incident Our Great Master visited Tenkasi and found that the people were stricken with famine and hunger. His followers slaughtered a bull to feed the poor people of Tengkasi. This has ourtraged the hindu people thereat as the bull is one of the diety of Hinduisim. As the saint was so close to Allah swt and with the permission of Allah swt he told his followers to pile up the bones of the cow. The Master then gave the heap of bones a gentle tap by his walking stick. The bull came to life and stood alive infront of the astonished spectators. Many dropped at the feet of the Great Saint and converted to Islam.
Knowing full well the miracles of Hazarath Shahul Hameed, Hazarath Mohsin knew that somehow he could still contact His Master. The compassionate Hazarath Yousif RA comforted the distressed Hazarath Mohsin and informed him that he could still meet The Master if he could sit in deep meditation for 3 days at a particular place. Hazarath Mohsin carried out the meditation with great piety and affection for the Holy Master by fasting for 3 days at a chosen spot. By the Grace of Allah swt his desire was fullfilled. Hazarath Mohsin met his Spiritual Master and he was blessed by the Great Saint.
Every year on the 9th of Jamaidul Akhir, the Fakirs came to the above mentioned spot where Hazarath Mohsin performed the meditation. This location is now known as 'Peer Mandapam'.There they fast and meditate for 3 days. On 11th Jamaidul Akhir, they break the fast at the seafront.

The bigger drum will be at the botton and smallest will reach the top. Devotees by the thousands will gather in Nagapattanam for the inauguration of the procession. Jasmine flowers will be gently thrown like raindrops on the carriage containing the "Koodu" by the devotees as a requisition to the Great Saint to fulfil their hidden vows. At about 3:30 am the carriage carrying the sandwood paste will rest at the foot entrance doorsteps of Nagore Dargah. The auspicious paste will then be brought in to the premises and anointed on the Rawla Shariff and the tomb of the Great Saint. That will be my best day of the year It is because I will be one of the fortunate persons inside our Great Grandfather’s Rawla Shariff.
Despite my non presence there, my soul still remembers how the purest day of 10th Jamaidhul Akhir will be remembered and celebrated in Nagore Shariff.

Dismounting of flag
It is with the Will of Allah swt through my Great Grandfather Shahul Hameed Kadir Oli RA that i came to this far to have written the story of the Great Khandoori Festival in Nagore.
Throughout the 14 days the message of the Al Quran will be recited and its blessings were rendered to the Great Soul who had already won the closeness of the Creator Allah swt. My Great Grandfather had sacrificed the happiness of this life for the sake of Allah alone. My faith shies away whenever i see a stronger muslim that is my Great Grandfather.
Like the stars in the darkest night our faiths differ with luster. One star may never be seen by the naked eye than the other one which can brightly shines through. This is how Allah swt sees us. If our faith is stronger and robust Allah swt admire and adore us and give us the best station in spirituality.
At the end of the Kandoori Festival, though the flags will be dismounted and the lights removed the spiritual light of Nagore Dargah will be treasured and cherised by Allah swt forever. With the Will of Allah I will explore his history soon. May Allah swt bless all muslims for their attempt to get close to Him, Ameen.
